Just when we thought the Floyd “Money” Mayweather and MMA rumors were dead, Firas Zahabi decides to stir up the pot once more, this time involving his star pupil, Georges “Rush” St-Pierre.
During a sit-down interview with Joe Rogan this week, Tristar Gym’s head coach Firas Zahabi once again proposed a boxing match up between Floyd Mayweather and Georges St-Pierre. The first time Zahabi brought up the idea, it didn’t receive much traction. So it only made sense for the MMA guru to bring it up again, this time while sitting with longtime UFC commentator and hype man, Tae Kwon Joe Rogan.
Zahabi can’t help but smile as he discusses the prospects of an unlikely match up between Mayweather and St-Pierre. Somewhere Dana White is smiling at the thought of being asked about the potential match up the next time he does media rounds. Or he could be readying up to once again claim that St-Pierre will not return and that he simply does not want to fight anymore.
St-Pierre has been recently linked to a pair of 155-pound fighters in Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomoedov and is now being linked to the even smaller but immensely wealthier Floyd Mayweather. It wouldn’t be the Joe Rogan MMA Show without the mention of outlandish match ups. Let’s be honest there’s a higher chance of Michael “Venom” Page facing a ranked fighter than GSP mixing it up with Mayweather in a boxing ring.
There is nothing more exciting than watching two combatants who have been notoriously criticized throughout their respective careers for being boring, putting on heavier gloves and throwing down in a bout with even more restrictions. Perhaps soon we can fantasize about a potential GGG vs GSP boxing match if the gets past “Canelo” Alvarez on September 15th. Crazier things have happened.
